Santa’s Express.
As a child one of the things I remember was an amazing train set my dad built that filled a shed in our garden. You had to duck under & pop up in the middle so you were totally immersed & surrounded by it. As with a lot of things in life people grow, needs change, things are given away & you wish you still had them later in life, which all applied to our train set. My dad really really wanted to start another lay out & has talked about it for some years now, but there is always something else to do or spend his money on so it hadn’t got started. The end of last year during a bad time in the pandemic my dad was diagnosed with cancer, after being subjected to chemo & radio therapy he finally had the operation in April which thank goodness they say has gotten rid of the cancer but there is a very long recovery from the major operation he had. It was at this time I spotted Hornby’s Santa’s Express on the IWOOT web site. I jumped at the chance to get it for him as a get well soon gift & thought it would help him to have a project to take his mind off what he’s been & still going through. I must admit I did repaint the train green & the wagons a wood effect to more suit a none Christmas gift for a 77 year old. I am pleased to report the set was very well received; he set it up on the table in no time & just like the Hornby lay out always was nice & reliable just like a steam train should be. Very CHUFF CHUFFED with my purchase.
