The Story So Far

The series began back in 2001 with humble beginnings in the Nintendo 64 games console. But why did it take the world by storm and become so popular? Its open-ended nature means that you can enjoy hours and hours of gameplay in a pressure-free environment.

You’re free to wander around, catching bugs, fishing, buying a house and decorating it, gardening, and much more. Another wholesome factor of this game is that it follows a clock and calendar which changes throughout the day. The currency in every town is known as bells.

You’re even free to compose your own town’s anthem, give fish or bugs you’ve caught to the museum curator and much more. It’s no wonder that you can easily get lost in this game, as there’s a whole world to discover and explore! There are five main series in the franchise – these include the original game itself, Wild World, City Folk (also known as Let’s Go To The City in Europe and Oceana), New Leaf and New Horizons. The most recent game was released in 2020.

Characters With Personality

As well as your own avatar, you’re also in a town where you’ll have a handful of other residents living there. You can befriend them, set catchphrases for them, invite them over to your house and run errands for them, too.

This game also allows you to build relationships with your fellow townspeople, and encourages you to build bonds with them as a good neighbour.

Popular characters include Tom Nook, who runs the town’s main store, The Able Sisters who run a clothing store where you can buy clothes and design your own – you've also got the Mayor of the town, Resetti who might have stern words with you if you don’t save the game properly, and K.K. Slider, the town’s entertainer who plays concerts.

The great thing about this game is that the more you play it, the more things you can discover and the more people you can meet. Take Sahara, for example - on Wild World, she is a character that may visit your town to sell rare carpets for you to furnish your home with. She doesn't come around often, so be sure to strike up a conversation if you're lucky enough to get a chance.
