G-PAWS – The world’s lightest pet-specific GPS recorder.
Every evening, when cats push their way through cat-flaps you can be sure of only one thing… that they’ll be back for breakfast.
G-PAWS is a unique data recorder that uses the latest GPS technology to record where your cat goes at night or how far and fast your dog runs when off the lead.
- An ultra lightweight (11g) weatherproof GPS recorder
- A high-sensitivity multi channel GPS chip
- An internal Lithium-Polymer battery giving 8-hours of active recording time
- A motion sensor so the unit ‘powers-down’ when not in use
- Attaches to any sized collar thanks to two soft-silicone ‘sleeves’
- Charge and upload via mains or computer with the supplied USB cable
- Record, view and share your pets’ adventures on your free G-Paws profile
- ‘Time-stamped’ adventures are displayed on aerial photography or street level mapping
HOW IT WORKS
The G-PAWS unit uses a high-sensitivity multi-channel GPS receiver that detects and records its position every five seconds. The receiver is accurate to a couple of metres and will continue to work even when positioned under the pet's neck. The 'tracklog' of where the pet has traveled is stored on the unit with the capacity to store hundreds of journeys. Journeys are downloaded and saved as a GPX file onto g-paws.com. When the memory is full, new journeys automatically 'over-write' the oldest journeys.
G-PAWS is powered by an internal Lithium-Polymer battery, giving it eight hours continual use. The GPS chip also has a motion-detector that 'powers-down' the unit when not in motion for more than five minutes so when at rest the unit will not drain power. Ideal for lazy cats and dozing dogs.
Your pet's adventures are transferred to any PC or laptop via the supplied USB cable, which also charges the unit (four hours from flat to full)

I've been looking to buy one for a while and now I did I'm so glad! I had a few teething problems to begin with but that was just me rather than the device. You must charge it for 10 hours before first use and when I turned it on I thought it was broke because I couldn't get a blue light to flash (which the instructions say means it's working). After a quick Google search I found out it only flashes blue when the signal is strong, as long as it flashes red it is working. My cat didn't bat an eyelid when I put his collar back on. He must know it is there as it has a little bit of weight to it but obviously doesn't cause any discomfort. Really easy to use on the computer, no software needed. Simply plug in and it appears like a normal USB, go onto the G-Paws website and upload the files. I'd advise to delete the files from the device once uploaded as I don't think it's clear when they are from. I haven't given this a full 5* only because I get multiple readings (3-4 per night). I don't know whether it's because the GPS signal cuts out or if it completely stops recording when he stops. Me being fussy I would just rather see one for the whole night, even if there was a way after uploading to combine them into one. A slight warning though, sometimes ignorance is bliss. My readings showed my cat frequently crossing a busy main road meaning I now worry about what might happen!
My cat disappears for days sometimes and being a crazy cat lady I wanted to know where she was going. This is exactly what I needed it's fantastic! She travels 5 km and at a top speed of 18kph my girl covers some ground! It's lightweight and she doesn't notice she has it on. My dad got one too for his Tabby cat Tillie and we can share our adventures! Every cat owner needs one!
