SHELOCK HOLMES AND THE SCARLET CLAW (1944):
In La Morte Rouge in Canada, a woman is discovered dead, her throat ripped open. The tiny town is alarmed and believes the death to be caused by a legendary monster. Suspecting the culprit is human, Holmes and Watson attempt to cut through the town's superstitions and prevent another attack. Arguably the best film of the Rathbone series, the Scarlet Claw is atmospheric, grisly and devilishly enjoyable.
SHERLOCK HOLMES AND THE HOUSE OF FEAR (1945):
Holmes is sent by an insurance company to investigate the gruesome deaths of several wealthy - and heavily insured - men staying at Drearcliff mansion in Scotland. Each man's death is predicated by the strange delivery of orange pips to the next victim in this atmospheric adaptation of Conan Doyle's Adventures of the Five Orange Pips.
