Bandai is a Japanese toy maker and video game company. They are the manufacturer of some of the most popular toy brands and interactive entertainment today. The company was founded in 1950, beginning its journey by creating and importing celluloid dolls, metallic toys, and rubber swimming rings.
They also released its first original project in the same year, the Rhythm Ball (aka, a beach ball with a bell inside).
Bandai didn’t receive huge amounts of success until 1963, aligned with the release and success of Astro Boy. The company began producing action figures based on the anime series and quickly took off. Of course, Bandai’s most famous product is in fact the Tamagotchi.
The toy was created in Japan by Akihiro Yokoi of WiZ and Akai Maita of Bandai and was the world’s first virtual pet. Due to the device being the first of its kind, the Tamagotchi received immense success, becoming one of the biggest toy brands in the 90s and early 2000s.
