Back in the Cretaceous Period (or was it the 70's), when calculators were the size of small cars and an auto pop-up toaster was considered hi-tech, some geek sandwiched two circuit-boards together, chucked in some random wiring, and gave birth to a musical (sic) instrument that was to become an icon. After nearly 40 years in the closet, the Stylophone pocket synthesiser made popular by the likes of Rolf Harris and David Bowie (he used it in timeless classic Space Oddity) is back. You tap the electronic keys with the integral stylus to make funky noises - now with additional Classic, Synth and Bass sounds, - and maybe you can produce some musical hits using this retro kit as the likes of Kraftwerk, Erasure, Orbital, Marilyn Manson, They Might Be Giants, and White Stripes have done in the past. You can play solo, or plug in your iPod/MP3 player and play along to your favourite tunes, and even add some vibrato enhancement to really annoy anyone foolish enough to be listening to you. It may have been invented in 1967, but 40 years on this re-invention is bound to be another hit.

Lots of potential
This is one of those toys that you get a little buzz of excitement about each time it is brought out. The Stylophone is a retro synthesiser which is a cult instrument used by the likes of David Bowie, and more recently, Mark Ronson, but it allows even novice musicians to express their creativity. Forty years after it first became a kitsch icon, the re-released Stylophone has all the features of the original, with the addition of a volume control and added audio input enabling you to connect to an MP3 player and jam along to your favourite tracks in style. The Stylophone has great novelty value but is also a great little item for children who wish to learn a new instrument. They will certainly be unique in their instrument choice! ItÂ’s the perfect price and size to be a stocking filler and is also the perfect gift for the child who has everything!

Stylophone.. goodbye air guitar
Stylophone... goodbye air guitar. Although older than time itself, the compulsory MP3 link and your marketing treatment ensure it has taken the jetstream into this Millennium. The output/noise/music/hurdy-gurdy stuff is amazing diversity itself. It's versatile too as the wee ones did their music homework and picked out tunes.

Ahh this took me back and it was better than I'd remembered... I've had a queue of people (all from the 60s and 70s) in my office lining up to have a go and do their best Rolf Harris Impersonations....great fun.

Blazingly Technologic!!!!
This electro-pulsing piece of nostalgic kit is an intense flashback to those good old days of non-stop synthesising. An essential instrument for those prone to reminiscing and for those of a thoroughly modern mind what with it's decent quality MP3 playing capabilities, the Stylophone is a piece of enjoyably metallic genius.

distraught husband
Bought 2 of these for my boys - they are great fun and very noisy! Silent Night in January from one and the youngest discovered you can make lets say not very flattering "wind" noises with it. My husband is traumatised and doesnt know whether to laugh or cry - the words "trust your Mum to buy those" are ringing in my ears !!! They are brilliant

possibly faulty
Great potential but there seemed to be a loose connection on one of the batteries so operation was rather intermittent. Unfortunately tested after the return time had run out as bought early for Christmas.

Probably more fun 30 years ago
Bought as a stocking filler, it ended up being used about twice over the whole Christmas period. Great fun for a minute or two and did take some of us down memory lane, but really too small to be much fun and unfortunately overshadowed by more modern technology toys :(

What a hit!
I boought 3 of these as presents for a vaguely musical 10 yr old girl, a grungy cool, music mad 15yr old boy and a 16yr old girl. Amazingly, all went down brilliantly. The stylophone remains as captivating now as it was when I was young.

Simple nostalgic fun!
Easy to pick up and play - great fun at a party. Don't expect it will entertain for much longer than the Christmas season, but we'll get it out again next year!

God what a great gift. I bought this as a gift for the man who had everything and he enjoyed it so much he has ordered one for a mates crimbo. This toy takes you right back to the 70's, memories of annoying your parents with it, Rolf Harris painting and making stupid noises. Definately the gift for someone who has everything.
