National Geographic: Ultimate Enemies (Ultimate Enemies / Eternal Enemies / Relentless Enemies)

Dereck and Beverly Joubert are award-winning filmmakers from Botswana, and National Geographic Explorers in Residence. Their mission is the conservation and understanding of the large predators and key African wildlife species that determine the course of all conservation in Africa. They have been filming, researching, and exploring in Africa for over 25 years as filmmaking for them has always been a way to bring the message of conservation to a worldwide audience. All their efforts, over a lifetime, all coincide with one aim: to rehabilitate the environment and return vast tracts of land to nature and to protect the wild creatures that depend on it.

Across three visually spectacular programmes, Dereck and Beverly capture amazing new behaviour between lions and their rivals. In Ultimate Enemies the lions at a waterhole in Botswana have developed a special skill; they have learned how to hunt elephants. In Eternal Enemies lions and hyenas clash in overlapping territories. With never-before-seen footage, you’ll uncover an intense and vicious blood feud and discover nature’s savage conflicts in this ancient rivalry. Finally, in Relentless Enemies thousands of buffalo are trapped on an island with the great lions of the Tsaro pride – larger, more fearsome and more innovative than your typical lion. The buffalo are forced to devise defensive tactics and eventually learn to fight back.
