Packed with incredible amateur footage taken by Islanders during the Argentine invasion, as well as emotional interviews, this award-winning documentary tells the story of the Falklands Conflict through the eyes of the people who lived through it. The significance of the heroic actions undertaken by so many members of the civilian population during the conflict – people who until that point had led peaceful lives in the rural tranquility of the South Atlantic – cannot be overstated. They transmitted vital radio intelligence, took clandestine photographs of Argentine positions and carried ammunition, food and men to the front lines while often under shell and mortar fire. It is a story of bravery and defiance at great personal risk and their immense contributions to the British cause will never be forgotten.

The Falklands War
For over 150 years, the remote Falkland Islands in the South Atlantic have been the subject of dispute between Argentina and Britain. Since 1833, Britain has occupied and administered the islands, but in April 1982, on the orders of the military junta ruling the country, Argentinean forces invaded the Falklands and took possession of them. This programme examines how Argentina’s leaders miscalculated Margaret Thatcher’s resolve to retake the islands. It caused the downfall of General Leopoldo Galtieri and eventually led to the restoration of democracy in Argentina.
