H.M. Armed Forces: Field Mission Kit is a basic children's play set with a hat, compass, 2 small tubs of face-paint and a 16 page booklet on navigation. The hat is suitable for a child's head only (I tried and it didn't fit me!) and is made of light rip-stop camouflage fabric. The compass is a sighting compass, but it's very light and made of plastic, however it does seem quite accurate and responsive. It is graded in degrees with military standard angular miles. It has an adjustable bezel but it can be a bit stiff to turn. There is a scale/ruler along one side of the compass to aid measurements on maps. I was quite surprised with the details in the Tracking and Navigation booklet. It has 9 "missions" for the young adventurers, covering how to use: maps, field-craft, navigation, pacing, basic tracking and leaving a trail. Overall, it is something great to keep the kids busy for a while, whilst also teaching them useful things that they can use later.
