Family Steam Train Trip with East Somerset Railway

Spend a family half day on the rails of the heritage East Somerset Railway discovering the history of steam trains heyday, and enjoy unlimited travel through some picturesque South West countryside with this Family Steam Train Trip with the East Somerset Railway.

Since 1973 the East Somerset Railway has been transporting steam train fans up and down the track pulled by a lovingly restored steam locomotive, allowing steam lovers young and old to experience what rail travel was like 50 years ago. From Cranmore station with its museum and 100 year old signal box to Mendip Vale and the sight of trains running around, there are four stations and 2.5 miles of history to dive into on the historic East Somerset Railway, and you can experience it as your ticket allows unlimited travel.

There are areas to picnic at Cranmore station which is also home to the Whistlestop cafe, so there are plenty of options for you to dine when lunchtime rolls around. You can visit the engine shed and look into the workshops to see first hand the restoration work going on or you can simply kick back on your seats and just enjoy a day of back-and-forth steam train travel. The choice is yours!

What happens on the day?

On arrival at Cranmore station in Somerset you can park for free in the attached car park before making your way through the Ticket Office to the main platform.

Youll be free to board and disembark from the train as many times as youd like during the day, before eventually making your way back to Cranmore when you’d like to head home.

Validity

Your voucher is valid for 12 months from the date of issue

Please note you must have booked and taken your experience before the expiry date

Participant guidelines

• Family tickets are 2 adult (or two Concession) + two Children
• Children are deemed to be aged 3 to 16
• Children aged 2 and under can travel free of charge when accompanied by the voucher holder
• The experience content, equipment used and restrictions may vary

Availability

Your voucher is valid for 12 months from the date of issue.

This experience will be available on Saturdays and Sundays from March to October, and Wednesdays and some Thursdays June to October (check the website timetable for operating days).

The vouchers are valid for all services except Wine and Dine services, Santa trains and on some special event days (currently Tractor Ted and Peppa Pig days).

Prior booking is not necessary. Just come to the ticket office and exchange your voucher for tickets.

Vouchers must be used before the expiry date.

All dates are subject to availability.

Day Rover tickets allow you to travel on as many trains as you like. We suggest you allow 3 to 5 hours.

What about insurance?

The centres contracted with us hold public liability insurance. We also hold contingency liability cover. You will not be liable for accidental damage to equipment, except where damage has been caused as a result of recklessness or wilful negligence.

A cancellation indemnity, subject to terms, is included with every voucher.

How it works

All you have to do is pay for the experience you wish to purchase and well send a voucher and booking information to you or directly to the recipient, then you just need to check the info and book your experience.
