More like a normal camera than a video car cam. Most of the functions are not required for car cam use. Having to unscrew it from the mounting clamp to take it from the car is a pain but I have not owned any other type so don't know if they are all like that. It does not cope well with bright sunshine the picture "whites out" and adjusting the ISO setting only makes the dark areas of the picture even darker. The little shining bulb icon which shows at the top of the screen when the night time infra red lights are on is not very visible and comes on most of the time on ignition switch on so needs close inspection to switch it off in daylight. It does have a wide field of vision and the screen going blank after a few minutes, whilst still recording, is a good function to prevent the driver being distracted.
