REally Pleased

I found the Tape Express easy to use and it was wonderful to be able to convert all those golden oldies off my cassettes. Unfortunately, I'd already thrown a lot of them away before this became available! I've been able to convert an old cassette of my 33 year old son singing when he was only 15, marvellous, but not for him! Would highly recommend.

Inflexible tape friend

As supplied, this little unit does about half the job to a fair standard. It only appears to rip at 160 kbs - why not allow the user to choose a different setting such as lossless? The tape mechanism is flimsy and if you are powering off the USB it will often slow or speed up - just marginally - but enough to be annoying. Finally it insists on using i-Tunes - arguably the most invasive and irritating bit of software on the planet unless you turn off just about every option. As always you get what you pay for, but you would probably be better off with a budget Walkman and a jack to USB download cable with Audacity software.

tape express

had tape express bought for me as a present. I installed the programme but the the programme only taped for 60 seconds. I sent 3 emails to the company and got a reply after the 3rd. I did as suggested and the programme worked, but the cassette does not work properly I can hear the tapes going round above the sound of the music. I have sent another email to ION but again I have not received a reply. I think the cassette player is faulty. Can you suggest any further action I can take as they only seem to reply to irate emails.

This item is genious and so easy to use. Well worth the money if you have loads of tapes like I do. So it's definitely worth 5 stars from me!

Mostly works

I still have a lot of tapes and they do take up a lot of room. Although I have previously had problems with ion products I decided to try the Tape Express. Yes it works and transfers the tape to PC and yes it's simple - but with a few interesting wrinkles. I hadn't planned on installing iTunes as I prefer open souce programmes - took the plunge and it seems to be going mostly OK. Tape Express does seem to prefer to add to iTunes as "Temp1" which you then have to Add info to. Small point but annoying. I use Audacity anyway so already knew how to use that one. Was sad at the build quality of the machine, for that price had expected better. I did manage to it to stop looping (switch on side) and found on audio books that it's best to have the auto--separation of tracks unchecked. On balance though it is worth buying!!

Disappointing

I bought this to convert my audio books to MP3. Managed to convert one side of one tape but then it went into continuous auto reverse so I guess I won't be chucking out my old hi-fi after all.

It had to exist!

I was very happy to see that this machine existed and I have now very smoothly converted Kelsey Grammer's amazing autobiography "So Far... Kelsey Grammer" to mp3 files. Cassette tapes with my own voice as a child is up next!

I met my husband in the mid 80's (the good old days) and he used to play tapes (which were compliled by his DJ friend) very loud in his car. As cassette players slowly became instinct, the tapes sat in a box gathering dust. So this for his birthday i brought him the tape express along withthe JBL ipod docking station...he was over the moon(wish i had the camera when he opened his tape express) and we are enjoying listening and reminiscing...thank you to "i want one of those"
