High in a Bavarian valley, far from the hustle and bustle of city life, where the sound of cow bells and sporadic outbreaks of yodelling can be heard, lies the small village of Hintergrasek. It is here, hidden in a crumbling hay barn, that Helmut, affectionately and rather amusingly nicknamed Helmut, spent the best part of forty years (which doesn't say much for the worst part) perfecting the long lost art of Lederhosen automation. Traditionally Lederhosen were made of Elk (or by an elk, we're not sure) and in an ironic twist lost on Bavarians, are supposed to be manly. Well Helmut, or Helmut as we may now call him, was passionate about spreading the popularity of Lederhosen beyond the borders of Bavaria and the occasional comedy sketch. He dreamt of a world where the words 'Lederhosen' and 'you've got to be joking' weren't inextricably bound together. A world where men could walk high and proud in leather shorts and breaches with little flowers on them, a world where... yes well obviously he was kidding himself. Nevertheless, thanks to his tireless application, the devotion of his long-suffering wife Helmut (quite a co-incidence that), and his unfeasibly large beard that kept them warm during the long cold winter nights, he finally cracked it. Or more likely he just finally cracked, because what came into being was these Wind-Up Lederhosen. They have been dubbed 'A comedy version of Lederhosen', which is I think, tautological, but no matter. They hop about in a manic manner, and I think both Helmut and Helmut should feel proud that they had us in stitches for ages.
