Take note, the origin of the phrase 'to go commando' (i.e. to wear trousers with no undercrackers on): there's a game that commandos in the British army play called 'naked bar'. This is played any time a group of them are together in a bar. If at any time someone yells "NAKED BAR!" they all have 10 seconds to strip off, or they get a horrible punishment. To aid in the speedy removal of the clothing, they'll generally wear boots with the laces tucked in, loose trousers and a t shirt, pants being an unneccessary addition. Hence, to wander around with no underpants on is to do as the commandos do, or "to go commando".
