Tardis is an acronym and stands for Time And Relative Dimension In Space. Looking just like a wooden Police phone box from the 1950s on the outside, it is of infinite proportions on the inside. It's piloted by the Doctor, a mysterious Time Lord with a questionable wardrobe, and is able to transport him anywhere through time and space, disappearing in one place and reappearing somewhere new, much to the annoyance of town planners - which is a good thing.
