Description

If ever you've wanted to be a land owner, but not been too keen on the fact that it costs an arm and a leg, then this delightfully silly, yet nevertheless legitimate title deed is the answer. And of course it makes a great and original present. The title of Laird means land owner, it's a title that can be used by men or women.

This title document will certify that you (or the lucky recipient if you're feeling generous) will become a genuine land owner of a part of the Glencairn estate in the Scottish Highlands, i.e. a 'Laird of Glencairn'. You'll receive a registration code, which you register online or by post, and then an official title certificate and a 'Proof of Title' card. Once you've registered, you are welcome to visit the area where your land is located, where you can pace your boundaries (which admittedly won't take long as each plot of land only measures 1ft Square). You even have free access to the Laird's Retreat on the banks of Loch Riddon. The Retreat boasts excellent camping and free fishing rights (Lairds must bring their own equipment). It's a great bit of fun, you really will own a chunk of Scotland, and not only that, it's actually helping to preserve areas of land in the Scottish Highlands.

The area of Glencairn is near to the oldest Stone Age site in Britain - the Grey Cairns of Camster, as well as the Long Cairn of Camster which was used for many centuries as a burial chamber for the first Highland Clan Chiefs. Thankfully the likelihood of border disputes and clan wars is minimal, and there's nothing like the knowledge that you are a legitimate landowner (though you may feel moved to join the Countryside Alliance and wear tweed in the privacy of your own home).

  • The opportunity to become a Laird of Glencairn in the Highlands of Scotland.
  • Ownership of a square foot of land in Glencairn, in the beautiful Scottish Highlands.
  • A Map of Glencairn.
  • A presentation certificate and pen.
  • A registration code so you can officially register your be-titled status.
  • Registration can be done online or by post.
  • Post-registration you will receive a certificate of your official title and a 'Proof of Title' card.
  • The 'Proof of Title' card allows access to the Laird's retreat on the banks of Loch Riddon in Argyll, offering excellent camping and fishing.
  • An information booklet on the Laird's Retreat.
  • Information about the environmental and conservational benefits of owning land in Glencairn.
  • The gift is presented in an attractive presentation tin with a tartan sleeve.
  • Size: 22 x 16 x 2.5cm.

You must register your title within 12 months of receiving the gift.

Is it real?

I was bought this gift by my daughter. I went to Scotland on hoiday and attempted to visit both sites - the Laids' Retreat and the site where the plots are supposed to be. I emailed the company and asked for specific locations; they would not give any information other than the vague details already provided in the gift pack. They did provide a phone number which I rang whilst at one of the locations (where you're supposed to be able to camp and fish) - the lady who answered the phone was only vaguely aware of the whole thing and said she'd call me back within a few minutes - which she never did. Upshot was - I could find neither! Is it real? You judge.

Giving my mum the title she deserves

I bought this for my mums 50th birthday which is in 2 weeks time. Delivered really quickly, nice neat product. I am going to let her do all of the registration, but i think she will be really happy with it :)

Brilliant

I got this for my Mother who is scotland mad. She was delighted to say the least! It was a wonderful present. I would recommend to anyone who has friends/relations who are passionate about conservation and who would like to prance around professing that they are a laird/lady :)

Terrific Pressie

My daughter bought the Lairdship for her Dad for Christmas. I registered it for him and he was so delighted with the certificate that he framed it and it is now on the chimney breast. I was so taken with the conservation idea that I bought a plot for myself and now there are two framed certificates on the chimney breast which looks far more balanced. I am very happy to be a Lady.

BEST birthday pressie

As my father plays the bagpipes, has at least 4 kilts and visits Scotland at least once a year for different pipe and drum competitions this was the perfect present for his 70th birthday. Such is his exitement about it that he is planning to visit Glencairn on his next trip to play the pipes on HIS piece of Scotland. Thanks IWOOT for making it possible.

Great thing to have

It is one of best things I ever got.Plus stating that you are a Laird is a great way to start a conversation. It also helps preserve some of the land in one of the most beautiful countries ever.

What fun!

I purchased this for my fiance, which he was extremely pleased with and within 10 minutes of opening it was already on line and registering his claim. A few days later we were booking our main holiday and he used the title in the enquiry email to the hotel we were looking to stay in - the response from the hotel enquired how many rooms we would be requiring for our 'retainers' and 'bodyguards'. We are still laughing....

'Yes m'Laird'

I bought this for my stepfather's birthday. This was the first thing that came up when i entered a few things into your gift finder. I thought it would make him laugh and it really did, a great big deep belly laugh! Unbeknownst to me he and my mum were planning to go to Scotland on holiday next year and now they can go in style! Thanks IWoot you guys must be able to read minds... even we're not on IWoot!*cue twilight zone music*
