Description

If you can imagine playing chess in a pyramid with lasers against a pharoh, then you're halfway to getting quite how brilliant the game of Khet is. Of course if you can imagine all that you're possibly halfway to la la land. This awesome board game is an absolute breakthrough both in technology - being the first board game to incorporate laser technology - and in sheer strategy and head bending fun-ness.

The object of the game is to maneuver your pieces (most of which have a mirrored side to them) around the board so that when you 'fire' the laser from your corner, it bounces around the pieces on the board and ultimately 'strikes' and lights up your opponents 'Pharoh' piece. There are four types of pieces; the Sacred Pharaoh, Obelisk, Pyramid and Djed column. Players go head to head and move the Egyptian themed pieces with their two, one or no mirrored (for blocking your opponents laser) surfaces. Silver starts the game and always goes first. Players then take turns to move any of their pieces including the Pharaohs around the board.

Strategy, lasers and ancient Egyptian stuff, it doesn't get better than this, and oh boy, just imagine playing this game in the dark.

  • An Egyptian themed game with pyramids and lasers.
  • Eqyptian themed playing pieces; the Sacred Pharaoh, Obelisk, Pyramid and Djed column.
  • The pieces have either 2, 1 or no mirrored sides.
  • The combination of mirrored surfaces and lasers equate to 'firing' in the game. Use the non mirrored pieces to block.
  • Contains two Class I lasers (do not intently stare into the laser beams).
  • Suitable for two players.
  • Suitable for ages 9 years+.
  • Requires 4 x AAA Batteries (not included).
  • Size: 37cm x 46cm.

Brilliant gift

Bought this for a 12 year old chess enthusiast as a birthday present. He is totally obsessed with it and has since got his mum to buy him every accessory available. Trouble is he is so good at it no one will play with him so he has joined an online Khet club and is already an "expert" Totally an obsessive gift!!!!!!!

Great Product; Laser Chess? No...more than that.

Upon first looking at this product, it will inevitably draw comparisons with Chess. My friends even said `What’s the point of that game, when chess has been around for so many more years? ` Well, I’m about to tell you. For starters, this isn’t chess. The two are very different games. Chess involves taking pieces with other pieces. Khet involves destroying other pieces with a laser by hitting them on a side with no mirror. The main aim of Khet is to hit the Sacred Pharaoh with the laser. Easier said that done, with all the other pieces to redirect that laser back at your pieces! In terms of product quality, this products reeks of it. Each of the pieces is solidly made, and the board has a nice Egyptian style pattern around it. Onto the game itself. If you were to ask me if it was fun, I’d tell you straight is it fun! It terms of enjoyment, this games kicks Chess’ butt. I think that is has something to do with the lasers; they happen to be one of my favourite things. And the good thing is that you know you are having fun, but you also know that it is good fun i.e. you are giving your brain a well-deserved exercise. That’s probably the best thing about Khet; well besides the lasers. Onto the lasers. They are very powerful, but still operate best in a darker atmosphere. They are more than visible in a sunlit room, but the darkness just makes them that more epic. However, if you want to see the lasers path, not only the point of contact, you will need to use some sort of smoke/vapour to see it. I find that using this makes the game better and easier. Also, the thing that makes this game even better is the addition of two items; the Khet Beam Splitter and the Tower of Khadesh. These both add much more mayhem into the game, but only should be introduced when you’ve gotten the hang of the normal version. Now I only use these items when playing Khet! So, even though the price comes at £35, the product is worth every penny. This is a game suitable for all ages and abilities, and will be known for a very long time. Roundup: Faults; none. Positives: Great fun, great way to keep mind exercised, solid structure, with the addition of two new pieces more fun and refreshing.

Batteries included, but...

I haven't played a game yet as I bought this as a gift. However, I wanted to say that I bought batteries for this as the listing said batteries weren't included. When it arrived the box said that the batteries were included. But one laser wasn't working so I opened it to change the batteries and discovered that the factory installed batteries were leaking. Luckily, after a quick clean up and installing new batteries the laser is working OK. (I wonder how many more times I can use the word 'batteries' in this review? That's seven times so far!!) I had a quick play around before wrapping it up and am looking forward to a proper game over Christmas. If it is as good a game as it seems then I maybe I should buy some spare batteries (8) just in case.

Just very cool!

Forget the comparisons to Chess, it's totally different and very addictive! Don't expect to actually see the laser beam along the board (as in all the pics) but it's still very cool when it hits a piece. Takes minutes to learn and you won't get bored of this one quickly.
