Perfect for amateur gardeners, this Beanstalk Pod has a magical touch. The self watering beanstalk displays a special message on its beans once grown, from 'Smile' to 'Fun'. The beans grow in a pod with no soil, watering or even much gardening needed. As a decoration piece or a quirky house warming gift, this beats the regular pot plant in terms of an abstract approach to gardening.
To grow the beanstalk, simply add the water beads to the transparent growing pod, plant the seed and two weeks later a bean will have grown, containing a special message on the bean itself. The beanstalk pod used to plant in is transparent so you can see the whole growing process, start to finish. Its special design means it works as an incubator, allowing condensation to self water the system and the beans.
The water beads act as the soil, providing all the water and support needed for the beans to root. The beads are odourless and reusable, and come in various bright colours, which only adds even more visual interest to the product. Once water is added to the beads they expand up to 200 times their original size, and give all the suppport the beans need to root. The beans grow with messages and pictures etched into them which will continue to enlarge as they grow. A quaint touch to growing. - R.K.

I bought the Beanstalk Pod to give to my mum for her birthday but kept it for myself instead! I like how the pictures are already on the outside of the beans so you know which ones you're planting, it was so simple to set up. The only downside I found was that it says to pour in a whole packet of the water beads. You get 4 packets in all different colours and lots of beans. Once you've drained the beads you're supposed to put them all in the middle section but I had far too many. I ended up putting half in the bottom and half in the middle, I would suggest just using half a packet then you can use your pod 8 times.
I am the envy of the office with my Beanstalk Pod, everyone wants one. I planted my beans 6 days ago and they are just about to push their way out of the water beads. Excellent idea, well done!
A little complicated to put together in the beginning, hence only the the 4 stars. Although this confusion was probably caused mostly by my mother going over the instructions so many times, confusing herself! Was a perfect little gift for her work since it's not messy like soil and looks unique and colourful. I'd recommend not to use a whole bag of beads as it pretty much overflows in the bowl when you try to put the beans and cotton wool in. So far it's looking great.
After not receiving the item in time for valentines day, my dissapointed beau dutifully planted the beans anyway. So far all we can see is roots but it does say it may take weeks and I am glad that something is growing at least! Not a quick fix gift but hopefully a rewarding one.
