My sister asked for "something useful in the kitchen" for Christmas. Why wouldn't you need a carrot sharpener? I actually haven't seen it in action yet but i am just going to review it anyway. I think it's a fun quirky idea to be honest and i would rate it highly purely for that despite how it actually does use wise. The only thing i have to say to knock it is that in the picture and as far as i can tell the item is supposed to be black. The one that arrived for me was orange. I'm not fond of orange. (i know, "oh no, first world problems!") I also expected it to be a little bigger, but oh well! Still a great item!
From the illustration, this appeared to be quite a bit bigger than it is. I thought you could put a carrot or a parsnip in and actually peel it like you'd sharpen a pencil but you can't. There is a peeler on the back of the sharpener, which is adequate for the job, so then you just use the sharpener bit for getting shavings of your selected vegetable. It is quite good fun and you can get very thin shavings very quickly, but it doesn't quite do what I thought it would, hence the three stars.
