Description

Sometimes, a toy comes into the office and everyone just sits gawping at it, struggling to remember the time before it arrived. The Space Coaster Marble Run is one such toy - an indescribably cool piece of sci-fi silliness that's part marble run, part physics experiment. After you've constructed it (a pretty epic and rewarding task in itself), simply turn it on, put the two ball bearings in the central shaft and watch them whiz round the rail at breakneck speeds. It's a self-perpetuating Ouroboros of a toy, guaranteed to turn any frown upside-down, and possibly into a vacant stare of wonderment.

There are a number of different routes for the balls to go down and a junction at which they randomly determine it: they will either be sent wheeling around hairpin bends or careering through a rather exciting loop-the-loop section before returning to the bottom of the central shaft, which will lift them to the top again. It's a madcap, self-perpetuating gizmo that will delight kids and adults alike. Perfect for anyone with an interest in science and building things (there's over half a metre of rails to assemble), it's hypnotic, mesmerising and oodles of fun.

Features:

  • The Space Coaster Marble Run is an amazing, self-perpetuating marble run.
  • Great for anyone with an interest in physics. Or marbles.
  • Contains over 50 cm of rail to assemble.
  • Assembly is quite a task in itself.
  • Central spiral shaft lifts balls to the top of the run.
  • Balls (2 included) can travel through a series of hairpin bends or through a 360-degree loop.
  • Potentially never-ending spectacle (at least while the battery lasts).
  • Requires large flat surface.
  • Requires 1 x D battery (to power the central shaft, not included).

Size:

  • H: 36 W: 59 D: 18 cm.

Good, but complex

This is a good product, but it requires a lot of work and a decent amount of patience to build it and get it running smoothly. The instructions are clearly translated from another language and don't often make much sense so this makes the challenge all the greater. I am still tweaking it to get the lift working properly. I would recommend this product, but only for someone who likes an engineering challenge and has the patience to enjoy the building process.

Great fun!

Been looking at this for ages and finally went for it! It's quite fiddly to put together, but extremely satisfying once you complete it. Looks modern and stylish and works brilliantly. Will keep me (and the cats) entertained for hours! Was very impressed by the number of spare parts it comes with.

Takes a while to build but good fun

The instructions for the Space Coaster Marble Run leave a little to be desired but that only adds to the challenge. The rails have to be cut to length by hand but that's easy enough and if you do it after the supports are sussed you'll be fine. Kids love it and you can experiment by leaving ball bearings stationary on the track in the path of oncoming ones so that it acts like a Newton's cradle. Bargain at the price, I've bought two now, one one my son and another for my nephew.

Space Coaster Marble Run

It kept my husband and daughter busy putting it together for a whole evening, with a great deal of discussion. So I had some peace too. Now they plan to modify it....... I've said they aren't allowed to until a young friend of ours has had a go. I can see it going on our holidays as a substitute for the Tomy train set, and this takes up a lot less space in the case. Well worth buying. P.S. He says it would be nice to buy some extra bits to help with the modifications.

Great stuff

This Space Coaster Marble Run is great if you are a big kid. The pieces are clearly marked and extra bits are supplied. The only problem I had with this was being able to understand the instructions to put it together. They don't seem to flow very easily and in some places aren't very clear. One of the pieces was not formed properly. One quick email to the company that makes the Space coaster and the piece was replaced. Other then the instructions this item is great. It is sturdy, easily put together and a great "toy" for the adult that likes to nurture the big kid inside.
