If Patrick Moore has taught us anything (aside from his work on Gamesmaster… terrible business), it's that the night sky is a tremendously beautiful thing. However, thanks to the omnipresent orange fug that covers our major cities, seeing it clearly is a bit of a struggle for those of us who don't live in the countryside. Thankfully, the AstroEye Planetarium projector is on hand to show us not only the wonders of the night sky, but of whole constellations and star systems. It's sort of like being in 2001: A Space Odyssey, but without the psychotic computer and ballet music.
Simply pop this attractive spherical projector unit into its bowl-shaped holder, angle it up at the ceiling and turn it on. Immediately, you'll be awe-struck as over 8,000 stars gently revolve around the room. There are two slide discs for you to play with, one with all the constellations marked on it and one without, if you fancy a more natural experience. With a five-speed control, you can control the speed of the rotation too. It's even date-sensitive, meaning that you can see the subtle movements of the stars from day to day. Best of all, a press of a button will send a shooting star flying across your universe (though hopefully it won't be replicated in reality - there'll be meteors flying all over the place).
It obviously works best at night or in a darkened room (we tried it out under a desk with mixed results) and is therefore brilliant as an alternative to a night-light or lamp, or makes lovely mood lighting. With a sleep function that allows you to doze off without having to worry about turning it off.
Perfect for anyone wanting to learn about astrology, or those who want some interesting mood lighting, the AstroEye Planetarium crams the whole universe into your bedroom.

I cannot praise the Astroeye Planetarium enough. It teaches all the major constellations including all the star signs. You can set it to show what constellations appear at a certain time of year and also to seamlessly scroll through 12 months. The unit comes with 2 viewing disc, one showing the constellations and star signs, the other showing the stars and planets, leaving you to work out where all the constellations are. To top it all you can set it as a night light to switch itself off after a predetermined time scale. All in all, if you have an interest in space and the cosmos then this is a must!
We love this! The higher the ceiling the better. Pop some pink Floyd on; get the duvet on the floor and lay down and watch the galaxy go round. :)
Fantastic little "planetarium"
Setup: The box is straight forward and the AstroEye Planetarium is fully assembled (missing the batteries and the star chart). Once 3 x AAA batteries and the chart (either with zodiacs or without) are inserted it is only a matter of pressing play and focusing the stars on a ceiling or wall. Quality is okay, I'm not trying to kid anyone, the planetarium is not going to compete with a professional one and the material is plastic down to the lenses (as far as I can make out) but for a first attempt to get your kid or partner interested in the stars or as a gimmick to add to a room it is fine. The star chart is the actual northern hemisphere and not random light dots as with most toy ones. Overall: A good value for money "educational Toy" or a nice and easy way to make the ceiling of your bedroom more interresting. Also could be used as a night light.
It's quite light and there are 2 slides- with or without the constellations. I quite like the plain one, on a slow rotation. It's quite relaxing to look at and there's a timer option for it to switch off after 30 or 60 minutes. Runs on 4 AAA batteries. Overall it's nice and relaxing to look at.
Very pleased I bought it :)
I bought this AstroEye Planetarium for my other half as a present as I had previously bought him a 'Name a Star' kit (also from IWOOT). He decided, after I fell pregnant a few months later, that he would name the star after our child, which he did (as it happens the constellation the star is in, Sagitarious, also happened to be our sons star sign, and he was born 3 months early!). So I bought this very awesome celestial globe/projector. One thing, don't expect a big round projection on your ceiling as I did. It projects an oval of it and rotates round it to show northern and southern hemispheres. Both slides, with and without the constellations labelled are amazing and lovely to fall asleep to. It's a perfect nightlight, for parents and babies. I look forward to Stanton enjoying his nightlight and learning about the night sky at the same time. The shooting star function is great but it doesn't dot all around the projection, it stays central just a different angle due to the rotating (and why it's only available on rotating mode or it would be in the same place every time). I love this item, and I'm happy with the price I paid for it.
Flawless transaction, the AstroEye Planetarium is an excellent product. My mother was thrilled and it is very well priced compared with similar items. I'm in her good books for once!
I got the AstroEye Planetarium as a Christening present for my godson who's way too young to appreciate it yet. I took it for a spin to test it out and although the constellations were not in the exact positions relative to one another, the results were good! I'll make an Astrophysicist out of him yet!
Not what I expected
I bought this item as a xmas present for my boyfriend who is quite into his astronomy but found that the projection quality is not what it looked like from the photos.
Don't get over excited with this AstroEye Planetarium, I'm very disappointed. You can create the same with a black piece of card, pin and a torch. The feel of the product is also very cheap and plastic. There is also no real purpose to the date setting because you see the same stars (holes) but the rotation starts from a different place. This product is not the product it appears to be.
I bought the AstroEye Planetarium as a special treat for my 6 and 7 year old children. They loved it and it's also educational which I liked. I was pleased with this product, but it's quite expensive.
I wasn't very impressed with this AstroEye Planetarium.
Bought the item after reading the other positive feedbacks saying how good it was. However, on using this item, I was very disappointed, as all that is displayed are white dots on disc 1 and some of these dots are joined up to display signs of the zodiac on disc 2? As the saying goes .. 'Fool and his money.......'
I'm warming to this AstroEye Planetarium. I have to say, the shooting star function is a joke. However it definitely gets you relaxed and puts you to sleep, which is great.
I bought this AstroEye Planetarium for my Grandad and he loved it! Very impressed with being able to set the date etc so he can see the stars as they would be at this time of year. A good present for any astrology buff.
I was struggling for an unusual present for my friend and came across this AstroEye Planetarium which I thought they'd love. It arrived promptly and was reasonably priced. I have tested it and now "I want one of those".
This is a really cool gadget, we were able to sit in the warm and watch the stars from the comfort of the sofa. It looks like one of the observation droids from Star Wars. Works well, really pleased.
Astro Eye Planetarium
This AstroEye Planetarium is awesome! I sold my own planetarium a while ago to a friend who desperately needed one so I ordered this one. Great value, this one even offers settings for a specific day and time to watch (my old one did not have this). The 2 supplied discs are very high detailed, I personally like the one with the constellations. I learn a lot from it and I can enjoy the constellations in my bedroom, even when it is cold or rainy outside. The shooting star option is really cool too!
I just brought this for my boyfriend who is, in the nicest way poosible, a nerd...and he absolutley LOVES IT...its amzing and because his room is all dark and gloomy for his gaming sessions...the stars really show up perfectly..plus it really addressed his problems falling asleep.. i would really recomend this to any one who wants a cool and quirky gift..
