Steam Engine Driving Experience
This experience is ideal for any train enthusiast and gives you the chance to learn all the basic skills needed to drive a steam train. You'll be accompanied by the instructor at all times and get the opportunity to take the train controls, learn how to move off and come to a smooth stop. There'll be an opportunity to brush up on your skills throughout the day and eventually buffer up the engine to a 25 ton brake van. A tour of the locomotive yard and a visit to the signal box is also included in the experience.
On the day of the experience you should arrive in good time and it will begin at 8:30am. After breakfast and a briefing you'll be taken to the engine where you'll learn the basics for driving a steam locomotive. Then you'll get to control the steam locomotive, start and stop smoothly and buffer up the engine to a 25 ton brake van. Lunch is included with the experience and overall it should last for around 7.5 hours. At the end of the day you'll receive complimentary souvenirs to remember the experience. - A.D.

Your voucher is valid for 10 months. You must pre-book a date for your experience. This experience does not run between October and March. You must be aged between 18 and 70, reasonably fit and healthy and not on any medication; however, for those over 70, a doctor’s note is required. Overalls are provided and you will need to wear strong, sensible footwear. Despite the warmth of a steam locomotive, during inclement weather it is advisable to bring warm clothing. Please note this experience is available on weekdays only. This experience is not available during school summer holidays (16th July - 3rd September).

How long will it take to arrive?

Please allow 10 working days from dispatch of your order before notifying us of any late deliveries.
It may be advisable to check with your neighbours to see if a parcel has been left with them, check any outhouses you might have where it may be left if it cannot fit through your letterbox and contact your local sorting office to see if the item has been returned to the depot as undelivered and awaiting collection.
