This experience is ideal for any train enthusiast and gives you the chance to learn all the basic skills needed to drive a steam train. You'll be accompanied by the instructor at all times and get the opportunity to take the train controls, learn how to move off and come to a smooth stop. A tour of the locomotive yard and a visit to the signal box is also included in the experience.
On the day of the experience you should arrive in good time and it will begin at 8:30am. After breakfast and a briefing you'll be taken to the engine where you'll learn the basics for driving a steam locomotive. Then you'll get to control the steam locomotive, start and stop smoothly and buffer up the engine to a 25 ton brake van. Lunch is included with the experience and overall it should last for around 7.5 hours. At the end of the day you'll receive complimentary souvenirs to remember the experience. - A.D.
