Originally developed for the Swedish Department of Defence, the legendary Swedish Firesteel is the original fire starter. Being the best, however, means always having to push the envelope. The result is a new generation with an improved striker that makes it even easier to build a fire in any weather, at any altitude.
The second generation Swedish Firesteel 2.0 also features a new design, a colour matched lanyard and a built-in emergency whistle. The Swedish Firesteel's dependability and intense, close to 3,000°C sparks, have long made it a favourite of survival experts, hunters, fishermen and campers. It has also found its way into cabins and backyards as a foolproof way to light stoves and gas barbecues.

Great little toy!
This Light my Fire Firesteel is a great little piece of kit. I'm a science teacher and having this thing around to light bunsen burners is much more fun and doesn't require searching for a box of matches! Also great on camping stoves.

Great!
Product is great for lighting all types of fire including gas stoves and BBQs. To get it to work at its best, you really need to get through the layer of black coating and down to the metal core. The sparks last for quite a while and manage to light things with ease. The striker is a tiny bit sharp but all-in-all a fantastic addition to your camping repertoire.

Incredibly useful
The Light My Fire Firesteel is such a handy tool to have for in the garden! It completely removes the need for matches and will produce a spark even in the rain. And with it being rated for over 10,000 strikes you wont need to worry about replacing it any time soon.

Firesteel
This is an excellent product. My 10 year old boy learnt how to use a firesteel whilst he was away for a week at an activity centre when he spent an afternoon learning some basic survival skills. This was a great stocking filler and helped make it "his best Christmas ever!"

brilliant gadget, bought it for lighting bonfires on allotment, but also for barbecues and camping stoves, lights first time, good tip~ use the fluff from the tumble dryer as tinder, it glows and smoulders for a long while to get the fire going.

Sparks but no fire
We managed to get it sparking, which was pretty cool, but we couldn't actually create fire, despite trying paper and dry twigs.

This is BRILLIANT... it has turned my gentle giant of a man into an arsonist version of Ray Mears. He has shown it off to anybody that breathes.. and has used it so much in this last week, that I think I will be ordering a new one soon (even though it does have 12000 strikes) :o)

Not that good
This device is supposed to make lighting fires and barbecues easily but it has not been my experience. You scrape a piece of metal down the metal shaft of the device and it produces an impressive spark. However I have tried to light various types of paper with it but no luck. I think you need to use something like shredded paper, cotton wool or wood shavings but do you necessarily have these to hand when you want to create a fire?

Amazingly Useful
I have to say I'm very happy with this - come any weather (including soaked through to the skin), a decent spark is produced allowing lighting of the gas burner - whereas the matches were a soggy mees. Well reccomended!!
