Plague of the Zombie represents Hammer's only foray into zombie territory, and has been lauded as one of their finest films.
Respected doctor Sir James Forbes (Andre Morell - The Vengeance of She, Quatermass and the Pit) is called out to a remote village in Cornwall with his daughter Sylvia (Diane Clare - The L-Shaped Room, Ice Cold in Alex) to help local practitioner Peter Tompson (Brook Williams - Where Eagles Dare, The Raging Moon) deal with the sudden outbreak of a mysterious illness that is killing off the villagers.
The investigation is encumbered by the superstitious locals who have forbidden autopsies. The two doctors are forced to open the grave of a recent victim in order to learn more about the mystery plague, only to be caught by constable Swifit (Michael Ripper -The Belles of St Trinians, 1984). When the grave is found empty. Swift agrees to help get to the bottom of the mystery. Suspicion soon falls on the Squire, Clive Hamilton (John Carson - My Daughter's Keeper, Coastwatcher), who has recently returned from Haiti - the home of Voodoo - and when Peter's wife Alice (Jacqueline Pearce - The Reptile, How to Get Ahead in Advertising) is found dead, Sir James is determined to do whatever he has to to bring the killer to justice..
