Commissioned by BBC Scotland and presented by archaeologist Neil Oliver, A History of Scotland is a thought-provoking series that brings a fresh perspective to the big questions posed by Scotland's turbulent past. It challenges many of the perceived notions of Scottish history and broadens the viewers' perception of what makes Britain. The series tells gripping tales of battles and allegiances, political intrigue and religious conflict, as well as showing the superb locations and variety of Scotland's landscape.
The first 5 episodes cover Scotland since early times, taking in references to the Scots and Picts, William Wallace, Robert the Bruce and Mary Queen of Scots. The final five parts look at the story of Scotland from the mid-17th century on to the 19th century and the changing urban and rural landscape, economic decline in 20th century and also devolution and the modern day.
