We bring you another Interior Inspiration and this time we are focusing on marble.
This season, homeware has a strong focus on marble and marble look interiors. After hitting the tech market last year with phone cases, headphones and laptop pouches, the trend has spread throughout homes, now covering accessories, furnishings and tableware.
A non-foliated metamorphic rock composed of recrystallized carbonate minerals, marble has been present in our homes since early Greek times. A favourite among the Antiquity sculptors and architects, the material has now become a symbol of tradition and wealth. More recently the stone has become a style favourite, here’s how to replicate the look in your home.
Since the breathtaking marble walls, floors, and sinks found all over Pinterest give us serious home envy, we thought that we share our favourite marble DIYs.
First, you will need to know how to create the perfect marble effect. For this, you will need nail varnish, a tub or basin, and toothpicks.
- Fill the basin half way with warm water.
- Add four to five drops of nail varnish, making sure the varnish stays on top of the water.
- Use the toothpick to swirl the varnish around the water
You now have your marble base and are ready to get to work on all of your favourite home accessories. We started with white coffee cups, carefully dipping them into the nail varnish mix and slowly pulling them out and placing them on a paper towel to dry. You can repeat the process with pretty much everything, plates, plant pots and other p-word homeware.
We also love using this technique on varnished wood to create great key and jewelry hooks. You can use the first method or you can take your wood and stipple on different layers of paint. Once dry add the hooks, we think it’s easier to drill the holes beforehand.
If you aren’t prepared to get the paint out, IWOOT has some great ‘ready-to-use’ marble products.
