17th February 1981 | Joseph Gordon-Levitt
The first actor on our list is the ever-charming Joseph Gordon-Levitt, perhaps best known for his work as an actor in Inception and 500 Days of Summer – both of which we’ve linked below. Some top trivia about Gordon-Levitt is that he started acting as early as six years old – by auditioning and getting small roles in commercials and TV until he got his breakthrough role in 3rd Rock from the Sun.
18th February 1932 | Miloš Forman
Next up is legendary Czech Director Milos Forman, director of over 18 films in his illustrious career, as well as wining the academy award for both One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest and Amadeus, linked below. Our trivia on Milos is that his is one of only three living directors who have directed two films that have won the Academy Award for best picture. The others are Francis Ford Coppola and Clint Eastwood.
19th February 1967 | Benicio Del Torro
For the nineteenth of February, we have gone for the bullish Benicio Del Torro, who has given many very difficult star roles great depth in his career, like in Che (parts one and two), as well as Johnny Depp’s sidekick in Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas, linked below. He burned himself with cigarettes repeatedly for the elevator scene in Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas because the real ‘Oscar Zeta Acosta’ did as well. The shots of the burn were cut.
20th February 1927 | Sidney Poitier
Another legendary figure in the halcyon of fim, Sidney Poitier is our choice for the 20th of February. He won the Academy award for his role in Lilies of the Field – linked below. He was appointed an Knight Commander of the Order of the British Empire in 1974. Although this is often mistaken to have been an honorary knighthood, it is actually a substantive knighthood, as Poitier is a citizen of The Bahamas, a Commonwealth realm which at the time of his appointment recognized the British Honours System. He is thus entitled to be known as Sir Sidney Poitier, but does not himself use this title.
21st February 1946 | Alan Rickman
The final actor in our list is the inimitable Alan Rickman, perhaps known best for his roles in Die Hard and as Severus Snape in the hugely successful Harry Potter franchise. For the shot where Hans Gruber falls from the top of the building in Die Hard, he was actually dropped by a stuntman from a 20-foot high model onto an air bag. To get a genuine surprised look, the stunt man dropped him on the count of two instead of three.
